With the recent release of updated Next Island Lore, we invite the community to participate in building the story of Next Island!

The community now has the opportunity to tell their own first hand fan fiction stories of their adventures on Next Island. Your stories will be reviewed for continuity and quality. If deemed appropriate, your stories will be added to the Second Wave Colonist Journals located on NextIsland.com. The most compelling stories that are supported by many others in the community may be included in future quest dialogue in game!

In an effort to avoid diverging from the immersion we are trying to create, we ask those that wish to participate to do the following:

  • Identify which faction you will focus your stories around, stories may weave throughout all factions, but we are looking for balance between all submissions
  • Use an alias that will maintain the realism in our stories we wish to achieve
Example: We will not include submissions of first hand accounts from names like "bootylicious, hotdog420, totalswass etc."
  • Your stories should be a first hand account of your experiences within the lore of Next Island from a first person perspective
  • Stories will be submitted through written text, or through live stream or prerecorded role playing during gameplay

To participate, please post a submission in this thread with the following information:

  • Character Name
  • Character Description (One Sentence)
  • Thumbnail Image of your Character on Next Island in 971x882 pixels as a .png
  • Banner Image of your Character on Next Island in 1300x300 pixels as a .png
  • Initial journal entry providing back story, and context of your path within the story of Next Island

Refer to the Journals of Lieutenant Darrel Stephens for an examples.

We look forward to your submissions!

Faction: Resa
Character Name: Harriot the Survivor
Description: Harriot is a scavenger and Inventor; she’s a lone wolf and prefers it that way.

I have spent many years taking what doesn’t belong to me, to the point where I know no different. Survival is key, the only thing worth living for in a harsh environment that provides nothing for me. I hear their hushed whispers on the wind. Who am I to say they are wrong about us? Resa, a name only known to a few. We are the lone wolves of this island, roaming the world with no real place to call home.

While I was out on my daily scavenging route though oasis outlook, I came across an enormous cave. It was guarded heavily by robotic beings. They look as if the gods themselves had bundled scrap metal to build them, oddly beautiful. They used sharp talon-like hands to attack. Such a weapon as that would keep anyone away from me. A plan formulated in my head, “if only I could use their metal for my own use”. Their metal looked old but sturdy. In my previous encounters with those that call themselves “scientist”, they themselves had formulated a weapon. Even after all their talks of peace they had invented such weapons to defend themselves. And so, shall I. The cave offered me the best advantage point to go unnoticed by those around me, allowing enough time to build my supplies between raids. And with its own deadly bodyguards standing at the ready.

I will study these strange creatures and find a way to utilise their sharp talons and oddly sturdy metal to benefit my own survival. Though I fear their metal alone won’t be enough, so I must make plans to scavenge the rest, even if it means invading my own kind. But maybe, in time, I could find a way to defend myself and live to survive another day…

A great first submission, you've captured the intent here quite well. We are constructing your Journal page now, and will add it to the Lore segment in the coming days!

Faction: Stel
Name: Dante Artorius Inferno... in another life and another time i was known as "Fenix"
Description: I dont care if you live or die... only care what can i craft, sell or trade with you...

My father always said to take advantage of opportunities to improve my destiny ... and I did ... I was part of the first arrival of settlers in Calypso, where they promised us a better world ... My skills as a hunter and crafter would help me get started ... until a video recorded by a certain McCormick showed us the reality of those new discovered planets: monstrous animals, radiation, uncontrolled robots….

Many of us end up crammed into squalid cities, surviving as best we could, hunting yesterday, mining today and losing tomorrow ...

I left a lot of debts to a lot of people in Calypso ... My partner Katalina and I had to flee in the company of some Arkadian Smugglers who were passing by ... My skills in manufacturing and looking for everything usable led us to Rocktropía, Cyrene, Arkadia, Toulan ... and finally, haunted by debts and bad guys, looking for a new beginning we end up in this Eden ... Next Island ...

Stel… They welcomed us and we were able to serve them in their searches… Many years have passed since the young dreamer left Calypso… now, scarred in body and soul, I am an old fox looking for the opportunity to continue inventing, buying and selling… even your soul if necessary ...

Day 64:
My krakas are sold regularly ... even old friends of Toulan and Arkadia come to Next Island looking for my vehicles ... But something has happened: some of the refined materials that I have bought were not pure enough, and several Krakas did not work well.

A few days ago my partner Katalina appeared with a new hairstyle, the work of Starkiller (whenever she wants to convince me of something strange or dangerous, she changes her physical appearance) and she told me that she was going to investigate a cave that she had been told about, that in inside there was I don't know what door or sanctuary ...

Taking advantage of the fact that Katalina is traveling, I have decided to go to Kamba Outpost to mine, which people say is a rich area in Phlogiston. I set off and crossed the area to the West ... I found something like some strange Greek-style ruins ... but a little later, there was a lot of Phlogiston, so much that my L.A.R.A. he could barely handle the weight of the material found.

Suddenly, the sound of a BLP weapon raised clouds of dust around me ... As the dust dissipated, a Resa appeared before me, his helmet gleaming in the light of our sun ... he raised his visor and stared at me, measuring me ... damn scavenger ...

Transcription of recorded dialogue:
-Eh Stel… a lot of mining today, right?
-Yes, it was not bad ... now I must return before night falls.
-Not so fast, miner ... I need your materials ... so give them to me and you won't have to regret coming here unarmed.
End of transcription.

The Resa raised his weapon and pointed it at me ... I sneakily brushed the mechanism inserted in my right wrist, and my old Viceroy materialized around me ... from the side holster I took out my faithful Genesis Sparkbite ... we stood face to face, looking at each other, measuring ourselves ...

Transcription of recorded dialogue:
-Resa, don't move ... I remind you that fights are prohibited outside the PVP areas ... and there are none on this planet, so put your weapon down.
-Not here, but beyond the Portal there is a PVP zone ...
-Portal? What Portal?
-Boy, where do you come from? Haven't you read Darrell Stephens diaries?
-No…
-Okay, one day you will go there looking for your materials and I'll be there waiting for you ... your sword will be part of my trophy collection ...
End of transcription.

The Resa lowered the visor of his helmet and walked away in silence… A portal… Katalina had told me about a cave with something inside, and she hasn't communicated for days… What is that cave? And that Portal? Is Katalina in danger?

Day 70, Part 1:
After several days of walking, I have reached a paradisiacal area, through a path that some kind settlers indicated to me ... a path to a Sanctuary dedicated to Orpheus.

At the end of the road, at the foot of a waterfall, there was a cave ... its interior was very curious ... some ruins similar to those of Kamba Outpost, Greek in appearance ... and a TP !! Where will that TP lead? Katalina will be on the other side?
I approached the TP ... I got on ... I mentally prepared myself for the journey into the unknown and, with a flash and a strange sound, every cell in my body dematerialized ...

… And I was materialized again in another TP… I blinked in surprise and looked around… more Greek ruins, a cave similar to the other one I came from… and the exit…

I went to the exit, framed by climbing plants of some species that were not like the normal ones of Next Island ... I looked out and ... My mind was not prepared for what I saw ...

Some great Greek-looking temples in the distance ... a marble or alabaster statue of cyclopean dimensions that represented a kind of warrior goddess ... Athena perhaps?

There was a port with some ships at anchor ... but of a kind that I had only seen as a child in old books and movies ... it looked like a fleet of ships of Greek or Roman design ... where the hell was it?
An old man dressed in a robe and a cape passed by me ... he was leaning on a staff ... he looked at me and, despite my armor and weapons, he showed no signs of strangeness ... I asked him.

Transcription of recorded dialogue:
-Greetings, old man ... could you tell me where I am?
-Greetings, foreigner ... you just arrived, right?
-Er ... Yes ... but this area is unknown to me ...
-That's what they all say when they arrive, with those strange weapons and clothes that you use in your country ... Boy, this is Greece.
End of transcription.

Incredible ... this Portal does not lead to another place in Next Island, but to another time and place ... ancient Greece ... and, wait ... this old man was not surprised by my appearance, but said that more people came before me ... I decided to continue talking with him ...

Transcription of recorded dialogue:
-Greece? Really?
-Of course, foreigner ... do not be surprised, the gods have blessed us by being the best land in the entire Mediterranean Sea, except perhaps that area of Etruria where now there is a king called Romulus ... That is why so many of you come here?
-Yes, well ... I'm an explorer, and I've been traveling from place to place for a long time, searching ...
-Ah, like Odysseus, right?
-Ah yes, like Odysseus ... Well, old man, I suppose I should go to the city and see what there is, and if I find my partner ...
-mmm… you mean a girl who passed through here a few days ago? The one with blue hair?
-Did you see her, old man?
-Yes, she was as surprised as you, so I told her to go see Pentesílea, the Queen of the Amazons ... you know, women understand each other better ... To other people who have come here and I have been able to talk to I have sent them to other places, such as the great warrior with the golden sword ... The Great MrKaneki I think told me his name was. I sent him to the Colosseum ...
End of transcription.

MrKaneki ... that guy took a sword that Katalina had lent him, a sword gift from the great Uber Kike, and we never heard from him again ... and look, it turns out he's here ...

I said goodbye to the old man ... Well, I already had a starting point, I had to go to the city to see this Pentesílea and keep looking for Katalina in this new and surprising world ...

Day 70, Part 2:

I approached the city ... at the entrance, behind the port, I saw what I later found out was the Thebas Market ... dozens of people crowded in front of the shopkeepers' stalls, seeing the goods that were sold there ...

Sometimes someone with entropian clothes or armor would appear ... there was even a guy with a helmet similar to the head of an alien and really ugly slippers in front of what looked like a craft machine ...

At the exit of the market began a long staircase that led to the upper part of Thebas ... and flanked by part of his personal guard (men and women dressed in armor like that of the ancient Greek hoplites) was a majestic-looking woman ... Her Majesty Queen Pentesílea ... I approached her slowly and genuflected respectfully as I felt her gaze fixed on me.

Transcription of recorded dialogue:
-Greetings, foreigner ... who are you and why are you presenting yourself to me?
-Greetings, oh my queen! My name is Dante, and I come from beyond the Portal, looking for my partner, who arrived a few days ago.
-Your partner ... if she arrived recently it will undoubtedly be Katalina, the warrior.
-Majesty, then you know her ...
-Yes… she is a good woman, and she seemed brave and determined… that's why I gave her a mission, with the promise of a good reward…
-A mission, Your Majesty? If not too much to ask, which one?
-Well, the cyclops in this area are a bit shy, they don't usually bother, but ... a giant Brontes has appeared, with a huge mace, and is attacking farms and cattle ... I ordered Katalina to hunt down that damn animal ...
End of transcription.

Cyclops ????? Like what cyclops? But those are mythological beings, product of the imagination of the ancient Greeks, who believed in strange gods ... for a second I thought if there would not be minotaurs as well ... I decided to find out where Katalina had gone.

Transcription of recorded dialogue:
-A Brontes ... well ... I think I should go help her ... she's my partner.
-Okay, Dante, go help her if it is your wish ... she went to the Northwest, towards the city of Delphi ... one of these days I must go to see the Oracle, to consult him about those renegade Amazons ...
-Renegade Amazons, Your Majesty? But… You are her queen… don't you obey her?
-No, Dante ... they have formed a faction of their own that does not recognize my authority, and they call themselves Myrinians ... But that's another story.
-Close to Delphi ... Thank you, Your Majesty, I'll go find her.
End of transcription.

I got up and said goodbye to the queen, and headed for Delphi ... little by little I left the city of Thebas and a more rural area appeared, with farmland ... and a few miles beyond, my eyes did not believe what they saw ...

Huge beings ... tribal tattoos on the chest, huge clubs, with skin beads on their belts, almost bald heads ... and a single eye in the middle of their face ... Cyclops !!!!

Day 70, Part 3:

I spent a long time observing those beings ... I felt as if I were part of one of those dusty books that my grandfather treasured, books about heroes and monsters of a remote past ... at times my head refused to recognize what I was seeing: myths are sometimes not myths, but realities that have been forgotten.

Those Cyclopes did not seem very sociable with each other ... they avoided looking at each other when they crossed, and their only desire was to search for food among the trees or to hunt some animal that had been left behind. By the way, I did not observe that any of those beings were female ... How would they reproduce?

As my mind processed that, I noticed rhythmic vibrations on the ground. Automatically, the behavior of the Cyclops changed: they began to look at each other with their one eye wide open and their body language denoted nervousness ... As the vibration grew, they began to separate and go into the trees ... Soon the place was lonely.

I was surprised observing that kind of flight, when, suddenly, without warning, a couple of trees were uprooted and through the gap they had left, a nightmare creature appeared.

No doubt he was a Cyclops, but of such dimensions that he could have been a Titan like those of the legends, like Atlas.
The size of the mace he carried was enormous, his feet trampled the ground leaving large holes and his only eye looked evilly around him ... in his left hand he carried the corpse of a cow like someone who carries a simple mouse ... It was the Brontes.
Fascinating ... not in a hundred lives that I lived could I have seen that spectacle ... the being looked from side to side, began to sniff the air and, suddenly, following his nose, fixed his only eye on me ...

That's it ... He has seen me ... I hope he has already eaten and does not want to know anything about me or I will have problems ...
Yes... there were problems… The Brontes threw the cow to the ground furiously, let out a huge, deafening roar and, brandishing the mace threateningly, began to run towards where I was half hidden.

I hardly had time to materialize the Viceroy and take out my Sparkbite when the Brontes unloaded the club with brutal force ... I was able to dodge it with difficulty and I barely had time to cut it in the calf, which despite the magnificent edge of the laser blade , it just scratched him ... Hell, i should have brought a Decimator !!!
The Brontes would not stop swinging his clubs, and I was able to dodge him a few more times as i fired my sword for, despite his size, he was so fast.

And smart ... a couple more attacks and apparently he could foresee my way of fighting ... the club hit me squarely and I was thrown a dozen meters away ... I felt the Viceroy crack in places ... damn Impact plates, there should have been bought from a reputable armory, not that store whose sign said "Queffe's Surplus Shop."

My left arm hung broken, my legs did not respond ... as the being approached, I was able to activate my healing chip, and I began to feel the regenerative waves in my cells ... and suddenly, it stopped: the chip did not have enough charge ... I always the same thing happens, I forget to recharge it ... and this time this could literally cost me my life.

This is not the entropian universe, with its TPs and resurrection circuits ... maybe they won't work here, in which case I won't wake up in a Terminal Revive, but maybe I'll actually end up dead.

I looked up at the evil eye of the being ... his shadow covered me ... with a gesture of triumph he raised his mace to give me the final blow ... and then ...

There was the sound of a lacerating chip, and as if by magic, the Brontes's head detached from his body, falling at my feet… the being took a few steps sideways, headless, and finally collapsed.

In front of me, behind the corpse, a well-known figure in well-known clothes looked at me sarcastically.

I had found Katalina, or rather, Katalina had found me ...

Day 75:

The following days we spent resting the past fatigue and being entertained by the servants of the court of Queen Penthesilea… well, Katalina more than me, since she was the heroine that killed the Brontes.

The supposed reward was a series of objects that had to be exchanged for a kind of priest in Thebes ... He looked at us from point of view, took our objects and began to recite a litany to the gods, to make a sacrifice, read some tabas and bones , and other things that seemed witchcraft to finally announce that the gods were favorable to us and had immunized us against "the acid of the place where the one who was once beautiful lives" ... As if we knew what the hell that was ... Katalina and I looked at each other with disappointment as we returned to the palace ...

In the afternoon there was a general audience with Queen Pentesílea, so I dressed as best I could (Katalina had already gotten a beautiful red robe and high-heeled sandals that were in fashion in those places) and together we went to the great hall of the palace…

When we arrived, we went to the area where the queen's guests gathered and proceeded to hear a speech where there was talk of an evil being that lived in the south, on an island where once there were only Centaurs ...

That being terrified the people of the island, and no one could approach it, since its gaze turned every living being that came its way to stone ... I began to remember what my grandfather told me in his dusty library ...

The Gorgons were three beautiful sisters: Steno, Euryale and Medusa, immortal ... but one of them, Medusa, suffered a punishment from the goddess Athena, who turned her into a kind of Serpent-Woman with scaly skin and hair formed by a bunch of snakes ... and worst: His gaze could turn to stone ...

While thinking about all this, Queen Pentesílea got to the heart of the matter: A group of warriors was gathering, both Greeks and colonists from Entropia to go and finish her ... The Haruspex allowed all those foreigners to help, obtain land and begin a moderate colonization of the area ... if they survived ...

In addition, there was another incentive: the legends said that the Medusa kept pieces of armor like she had never seen before ... pieces that in the hands of an expert warrior would give her devastating power against all kinds of beings ...

I was alert… incredible armor… sure would be worth a fortune at Calypso's Auction House… We had to join the expedition. It was the perfect opportunity to be rich, and finally be able to have a land to settle down ... I approached Katalina and whispered it into her ear ...

The look she gave me could well be like Medusa's: Petrifying ... Katalina definitely wanted the armor, but not to sell it, but to wear it and show it off ... How do I make her understand that it can be worth a fortune?

Well, we'll see what we do with the armor assuming we get it, for which it is necessary to kill the Medusa and, above all, most importantly ... if we survive ...

The next morning, with weapons ready, armor repaired and plenty of ammunition stored (and my healing chip fully charged for the first time in my life) we set off to the lands where that terrifying being had his refuge… The hunt for the Medusa began.
